About We Love Malaysia
We Love Malaysia is an independent travel guide to Malaysia, written for people planning a trip and wanting clear, practical answers. We cover where to go, what to see and eat, how to get between places and when to visit, from Kuala Lumpur and Penang to the islands of the east coast and the rainforests of Borneo.
This page explains who we are, how we work and how the site is funded, so you can decide how much to trust what you read here.
Our history
The We Love Malaysia name was first used in 2008 for a Malaysia travel site that organised the country state by state, with guides to each region and its main sights. Travel in Malaysia has changed a great deal since then: new rail lines, e-hailing apps, digital entry forms and many new places to stay and eat.
In 2026 we relaunched We Love Malaysia as a modern, independent guide. The state-by-state approach remains, but every page has been rewritten from scratch for how people travel today, with a focus on accurate details and honest advice.
What we cover
The site is organised so you can plan at whatever level suits you:
- States: an overview of each Malaysian state, its regions, food and the best time to go.
- Destinations: cities, islands and highland towns, with where to stay, how to get there and how long to spend.
- Attractions: individual places to visit, with opening hours, entry prices, addresses and practical tips.
- Itineraries: day-by-day routes for first-time visitors, families, island lovers and travellers heading to Borneo.
- Guides: practical topics such as entry requirements, getting around, food, SIM cards and where to stay.
How we research and keep pages up to date
Opening hours, ticket prices and transport timetables in Malaysia change often, sometimes with little notice. We base hard facts on official sources wherever they exist: the attraction’s own website, Tourism Malaysia, state tourism boards, national park authorities, transport operators and government departments.
Every place page shows when its details were last checked against an official source, along with the date of that check. If we could not confirm a detail, we leave it out rather than guess, and we point you to the official website instead. Pages on entry requirements and transport are reviewed every month, and we update other pages as things change or as readers tell us about something new.
Even so, details can change between our checks. For anything that affects your plans, such as a closing day or a permit rule, we recommend confirming with the operator shortly before you go. Our editorial policy sets out our research standards in full.
Independence and how we make money
We Love Malaysia is not owned by, or paid by, any tourism board, hotel group, airline or attraction. No one pays to be included on the site, and no one can pay to change what we say about them.
The site is funded through affiliate links. When you book a hotel, tour, transfer or similar product through some of the links on our pages, the booking company may pay us a small commission. This costs you nothing extra: the price is the same as booking directly with that company.
Affiliate partnerships never decide which places we recommend or how we describe them. We write about a place first and look for a booking link afterwards, and many of the places we recommend earn us nothing at all. You can read exactly how this works in our affiliate disclosure.
