Editorial policy
This editorial policy explains how the We Love Malaysia editorial team researches, writes, checks and updates the travel information on this site. Our aim is simple: every page should be useful, specific and true at the time you read it.
Research standards
We write for travellers who need to make real decisions: which island to choose, how to get from the airport, whether a place is open on a Monday. That means we focus on practical, checkable details rather than general description.
Every page is planned around the questions travellers actually ask. We then research the answers from primary sources first, and we do not publish a hard fact (such as an opening time, a price or a permit rule) unless we can trace it to a reliable source.
Sources we use
Wherever possible, we rely on official sources, including:
- The attraction’s or operator’s own website and official social media channels
- Tourism Malaysia and state tourism boards
- National and state park authorities, such as Sabah Parks and Sarawak Forestry
- Transport operators, such as KTMB and KLIA Ekspres, and airport operators
- Government departments, including the Immigration Department of Malaysia
When no official page exists, we use recent, reputable sources and cross-check them against each other. We keep a record of the sources behind every page so that our editors can recheck them.
Fact-checking and update cycle
Before a page is published, an editor checks its structured details (opening hours, entry prices, addresses, official websites and transport information) against the sources listed for that page. Every place page shows when its details were last checked against an official source. If we cannot confirm a detail, we leave it blank rather than guess.
Some topics change faster than others, so we review them on different cycles:
- Entry requirements and transport pages: reviewed every month.
- Attraction pages: rechecked regularly, and straight away when we learn of a change.
- Destination, state and itinerary pages: reviewed periodically and whenever a linked page changes.
How we handle prices and hours
Prices in this guide are given in Malaysian ringgit (RM) and reflect what was listed at the time of our last check. Many attractions charge different rates for Malaysians and international visitors, and some change prices for weekends, school holidays or festivals, so we say so where it applies.
Opening hours can shift during Ramadan, public holidays and maintenance periods. We describe prices and hours in a way that stays accurate (“at the time of writing”) and we recommend confirming important details with the operator before you travel.
Use of AI tools
We may use AI tools to help with research and drafting, for example to organise notes, summarise long official documents or suggest a structure for a page. AI tools are never treated as a source of facts.
Every page is reviewed and fact-checked by a person before publishing. That review covers accuracy, tone and usefulness, and any fact that cannot be traced to a reliable source is removed.
Corrections policy
We work hard to get things right, but mistakes and outdated details do happen. If you find an error, please email us at hello@welovemalaysia.com with the page link and what needs changing, ideally with a source.
We review every correction we receive. When we confirm an error, we fix the page and update its review date. Significant corrections, such as a wrong entry rule or a closed attraction, are prioritised.
Independence
Our recommendations are our own. No hotel, tour company, attraction or tourism body pays to be featured or can review a page before it is published. We do not accept payment for positive coverage.
We earn money through affiliate links, which never influence what we recommend. Read our affiliate disclosure for details, or learn more about We Love Malaysia.
