Awana SkyWay: Genting Cable Car Tickets and Tips

The Awana SkyWay is the main cable car up Genting Highlands, running 2.8km from Sky Sentral at Awana to Genting Highlands Station inside SkyAvenue. Gondolas climb around 620 metres in about 10 minutes, passing over thick rainforest that is often wrapped in cloud. For most visitors it is the easiest way to reach the resort, the casino and Genting SkyWorlds without driving the final hairpins.

Awana SkyWay tickets and hours

At the time of writing, a standard gondola costs RM11 one-way or RM19 return, and seniors pay RM6 one-way. Express boarding, which skips the main queue, costs RM17 one-way. The glass floor gondolas cost RM32 one-way or RM54 return, a little less when booked online a day ahead. Children under 90cm ride free.

The cable car normally operates from 7am to 11pm. It closes for scheduled maintenance a few times a year (12 to 16 October 2026 is the current window), when the separate Genting SkyWay from Gohtong Jaya runs extended hours instead. Check the official page before you travel.

What to expect on the ride

Gondolas leave from Level 4 of Sky Sentral, next to the bus and car park hub at Awana. Standard cabins seat up to 10 people and you may share with strangers at busy times. The glass floor gondolas are worth the extra for the view straight down into the canopy, though in thick mist you may see little more than white.

The midway stop at Chin Swee is free. Hop off to see the Chin Swee Caves Temple, a Taoist complex with a nine-storey pagoda and a large Buddha statue, then rejoin the line to continue up. Allow 45 to 60 minutes for the temple.

Awana SkyWay or Genting SkyWay

Genting has two cable cars. The Genting SkyWay is a separate, longer line of about 3.4km from Gohtong Jaya straight to Resorts World Station, taking around 15 minutes with no stops. The Awana SkyWay is usually more convenient if you arrive by bus at Awana, want the Chin Swee stop or fancy a glass floor ride.

Getting there and best time to go

Buses from Kuala Lumpur run to the Awana area, and Genting Highlands Premium Outlets is a short walk from the station. Arrive before 10am on weekends and holidays, when queues can be long. Clear mornings give the best views; afternoons are often cloudy.

How it fits a trip

Most people ride the SkyWay as part of a day trip from KL. See our Genting Highlands guide, the Pahang guide and our Malaysia 10-day itinerary for routes. Full fares are on the official Awana SkyWay page.

Tips for visiting Awana SkyWay

  • Book glass floor tickets online a day ahead for a small saving.
  • Use the free Chin Swee stop to visit the temple on the way up.
  • Bring a jacket; the top station is much cooler than KL.
