Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park: Tickets, Rides and Tips

Genting SkyWorlds is the outdoor theme park at Resorts World Genting, about an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur at about 1,700 metres in the Genting Highlands. It opened in 2022 on the site of the old Genting outdoor park, with zones themed on films including Ice Age, Rio, Night at the Museum and Planet of the Apes. The cool mountain air makes it far more comfortable than a day out in lowland heat.

Genting SkyWorlds tickets and hours

The park opens daily from 10am to 6pm and is closed every Tuesday, except on Malaysian national public holidays and school holidays. At the time of writing, non-Malaysian Standard tickets cost RM168 online when bought at least a day ahead, or RM198 walk-in. Child, senior and disabled tickets are RM65 online. Malaysians with MyKad pay from RM88 online.

Ticket category is set by height: under 90cm enter free, 90cm to 110cm pay the child rate and anyone above 110cm needs a Standard ticket. Standard tickets include three Virtual Queue reservations, which let you skip the regular line on selected rides. Tickets cannot be refunded or changed, so check the weather forecast before booking.

What to see and ride

The park has nine themed zones and more than 20 rides and attractions. Highlights include Epic Voyage to Moonhaven, a dark ride and flume with a big drop; Independence Day: Defiance, a flying theatre; Invasion of the Planet of the Apes, a trackless 3D dark ride; and Samba Gliders, a suspended coaster in the Rio zone. Smaller children are best served in Robots Rivet Town and the Ice Age area.

Some rides close for maintenance on a rotating basis, and the official website lists current closures. Pregnant visitors are not permitted on rides.

How to get there

Most visitors come up from Kuala Lumpur by bus or car to the Awana area, then ride the Awana SkyWay cable car to SkyAvenue, which connects to the park. Driving all the way to the top is possible, but weekend traffic and parking queues can be slow. Indoor attractions at Skytropolis and SkyAvenue make a good fallback when rain sets in.

Best time to visit

Weekdays outside school holidays are the quietest. Arrive at opening, use your Virtual Queue slots on the most popular rides and leave indoor attractions for the afternoon, when mist and rain are most likely. Bring a light jacket; it can feel chilly once the cloud comes in.

How it fits a trip

SkyWorlds works as a long day trip from KL or as part of an overnight stay. Read our Genting Highlands guide, the Pahang state guide and our Malaysia 10-day itinerary for how the highlands fit a wider route. Current prices are on the official Genting SkyWorlds website.
