Aquaria KLCC: Tickets and What to Expect

Aquaria KLCC sits beneath the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, a few minutes’ walk from the Petronas Twin Towers. Opened in 2005, it holds more than 5,000 animals from over 250 species across two floors, and it is one of the easiest rainy-day options in Kuala Lumpur. It is no rival to the world’s giant aquariums, but it is well run, close to everything and a reliable hit with children.

What to see at Aquaria KLCC

The route starts with freshwater habitats before moving towards the sea. Early zones cover rivers and flooded forest, with Asian small-clawed otters in The Stream and huge arapaima in the Flooded Forest. The Evolution Zone has red-bellied piranhas, and there is a touch pool where children can gently handle small marine creatures under supervision.

The main draw is the 90-metre underwater tunnel, where a moving walkway carries you beneath sand tiger sharks, giant groupers and green sea turtles. Step off the walkway and stand to one side if you want time to watch, because the sharks often circle overhead. Station Aquarius, with its jellyfish and seahorses, is the best spot for photos thanks to the lighting.

Feeding times

Feeding sessions run through the day, and they are the liveliest moments of a visit. At the time of writing the otters are fed at 11.15am and 4.30pm, the piranhas at 4pm, and the Aquatheatre at 12pm and 3pm. The sand tiger shark feed at 3pm and the arapaima feed at 2.30pm happen only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, so plan around those days if sharks are the priority. Check the official feeding page before you go, as schedules can change.

Tickets and opening hours

Aquaria KLCC is open daily from 10am to 8pm, with last admission at 7pm. There are two price tiers: General Admission for non-Malaysians, and cheaper MyKad rates for Malaysian citizens. Buy online at the official site to see the exact rate for your date and age group, and to reserve a timeslot during school holidays.

How to get there

The aquarium is at the Concourse Level of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Jalan Pinang. From KLCC LRT station, walk through Suria KLCC mall and follow the signs to the convention centre, which takes around 10 minutes. From Bukit Bintang, the covered, air-conditioned pedestrian walkway brings you to KLCC in about 15 minutes, which is pleasant in the midday heat. Grab drivers know it simply as Aquaria KLCC.

Best time to visit

Weekday mornings just after opening are the quietest. Weekends, public holidays and wet afternoons bring families and school groups, and the tunnel walkway gets crowded. If you are travelling with young children, arriving at 10am lets you finish before lunch and the afternoon nap.

How it fits your trip

Most visitors pair the aquarium with the towers and KLCC Park, which has a free children’s paddling pool and playground just outside. Our 3-day Kuala Lumpur itinerary slots it into the KLCC day, and families can combine it with the KL Bird Park on our Malaysia family itinerary. Full details and booking are on the Aquaria KLCC website.
