KL Bird Park: Tickets, Feeding Times and Tips
KL Bird Park is one of the city’s most enjoyable green escapes, particularly for families. Opened in 1991 on 8.5 hectares of sloping parkland next to the Perdana Botanical Gardens (the Lake Gardens), it houses more than 3,000 birds from over 200 species, many of them free to fly under a huge netted canopy. You walk among hornbills, peacocks, storks and parrots rather than looking at them through bars.
What to see at KL Bird Park
The park is laid out in zones along a gently sloping hillside. In Zone 1, free-flying birds share the main aviary with the eagles of Brahminy Land. Zone 3 is Hornbill Park, a highlight given that Malaysia is home to several hornbill species. Zone 4 holds the World of Parrots, the flightless birds such as ostriches, the amphitheatre and the photo booth where you can pose with birds.
Bird shows and feeding times
The daily schedule is the best way to plan your visit. At the time of writing:
- Free-flying birds feeding: 10.30am (Zone 1)
- Hornbill feeding: 11.30am (Zone 3)
- Bird show: 12.30pm and 3.30pm (Zone 4 amphitheatre, free with entry)
- Eagle feeding: 2.30pm (Zone 1)
- Lory and ostrich feeding: throughout the day, 10am to 5pm (Zone 4)
Activities can change with the weather, so check the board at the entrance when you arrive.
Visiting with children
Children usually love the lory feeding in the World of Parrots, where the birds land on your arm for nectar, and the ostrich feeding in the flightless birds area. Paths are mostly paved but include slopes and steps, so a light stroller is easier than a heavy one. Bring hats and water, as the walk between zones adds up.
KL Bird Park tickets and opening hours
The park opens daily from 9am to 5.30pm, including public and school holidays. Tickets cost RM90 for adults and RM70 for children aged 3 to 11, with lower rates for MyKad holders. You can buy at the gate or on the official KL Bird Park website.
How to get there
The park is on Jalan Cenderawasih inside the Lake Gardens, about ten minutes’ drive from the city centre. Grab is the easiest option from KL Sentral, Bukit Bintang or KLCC. If you are walking from the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia or the National Mosque, it is a short but hilly walk through the gardens.
Best time to visit
Arrive soon after opening, when birds are most active and the paths are cooler. Weekdays are quieter than weekends and school holidays. Light rain is no reason to stay away, since much of the park is shaded, but heavy storms can pause the shows.
How it fits your trip
The Bird Park pairs naturally with a morning in the Lake Gardens and the Islamic Arts Museum, then an afternoon at Merdeka Square. It is a strong choice for families on our 3-day Kuala Lumpur itinerary; see the Kuala Lumpur guide for more family ideas.
Tips for visiting KL Bird Park
- Arrive by 10am to catch the morning feedings in Zones 1 and 3.

- Wear comfortable shoes: the park is on a slope with plenty of walking.
- Keep snacks out of sight in the free-flight zones.
- Combine with the Lake Gardens and Islamic Arts Museum nearby.
